Rear Vision 2020

    Rear Vision 2020

Rear Vision took place 18-20 December 2020, in a bespoke performance space in the carpark of Vulcana Hub.

Rear Vision is drive-in circus that is a response to our collective experience of dislocation, isolation and craving for connection, using circus, poetry and sound. Magnetic pull and repulsion will be enacted by circus bodies that crave to chew up space while cautiously negotiating intimate interaction.  Rear Vision asks us to acknowledge the rupture we are experiencing and consider our future collective actions.

Witness loneliness, chaos, cleanliness, lack of control, anxiety, fire, joy, wilderness, empathy, antagonism, and imagine how we find our way out of here. Rear Vision invites audiences to drive in to this unique performance site, a large open carpark. The audience stays in the safety of their cars to view the visceral art of circus enacted beyond their windscreens. Car lights are choreographed and Phones channel sound directly into their private spheres via a downloadable free app.

“(A pandemic) is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next. We can choose to walk through it, dragging the carcasses of our prejudice and hatred, our avarice, our data banks and dead ideas, our dead rivers and smoky skies behind us. Or we can walk through lightly, with little luggage, ready to imagine another world.” – Arundhati Roy
