What is Body Code all about?
Body Code is a circus performance work from Vulcana featuring:
– Deaf and/or disabled performers…
– working with circus performers from Vulcana…
– alongside AI researchers from QUT…
– and electro-acoustic composer/performer Frankie Dyson Reilly…
– at the most accessible arts venue in Queensland (Kingston Butter Factory)
At the heart of Body Code, performers are exploring how new technology impacts and will impact Deaf and/or disabled lives. They do this through movement, music, poetry, prose, video and circus to create a new theatrical work that is moving, funny, beautiful, fierce and hopeful.
A Vulcana Dream Realised
Thirty years ago, Vulcana was founded on a principle of providing access to art for marginalised communities. Despite complex barriers, we have always striven to ensure Deaf and/or disabled communities can access and engage with our work.
The dream of a production like Body Code, with Deaf and/or disabled creatives at the forefront and sufficient support across the board to ensure ideal formats of participation for all needs, is one that dates back many years. It is an incredible moment to see such a production take shape in 2025.
How can I see Body Code?
Body Code will be showing at Kingston Butter Factory on Friday 21 November and Saturday 22 November 2025.
Kingston Butter Factory is a unique arts venue with an award-winning history of accessible and inclusive design. No other venue in Queensland was capable of meeting the needs of Body Code’s Deaf and/or disabled artists. We’re very proud to be collaborating with such a crucial arts space.
You can buy tickets to Body Code at the Kingston Butter Factory website.
